MC LARS SUICIDE PREVENTION VIDEO – WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Posted by MC Lars on Mon, December 14, 2009 at 2:21 pm

Hey everyone,

As I’m sure many of you know, a song on my new record “Twenty-Three” details the life and tragic death of a best friend and Stanford roommate, Patrick Wood. You can read more about him on his blog. He was a brilliant friend who battled with depression and took his life in Berlin in early 2006.

We are making a video for this song, as it is the next single off of “This Gigantic Robot Kills”

To make this video be effective and raise awareness, we NEED YOUR HELP!

If you have any friends or family members who know or who have lost anyone to suicide, please get in touch with us. We want to feature photos of loved ones who have taken their own lives. The goal of this video is to help raise awareness that this is an issue that affects us all, and pay our respects to those who have passed on. One of the things that helps me get through losing Pat is having a song about him to sing and listen to. I hope that you will share this with me if you have gone through anything similar.

Please hit me up at horrisrecords@gmail.com

with photos and stories if you have friends who haven taken their own lives.

Thank you for all of your help! Together we can help raise awareness and help prevent suicide. We are talking to non-profit organizations to have some promotional support and help change the world together.

Much love and Happy Holidays.

P.S. Just on a legal side-note – we will need signed waivers, so before you get in touch with us with photos of your friends, please hit up your friends’ families first. We know this is a sensitive issue and just want to make sure everyone’s on board.

  1. so yeh this video is gonna make me bawl… I hope it helps some people though, either friends/family of those going through depression or the ones that are actually thinking that way. it’s so hard though, you want to be noticed but don’t want a fuss, don’t know how to bring it up, where to start. take each day as it comes though and yeh like i said hopefully this video helps someone :-)

  2. Thanks man. We’re just trying to help one day at a time.

  3. as someone who survived a suicide attempt, and still battles depression and suicidal thoughts on a daily basis, its cool to see you trying to reach out and bring the issue to light. more people need to become aware that this is a problem and people arent always just “looking for attention”.

    sincere thanks

  4. This is just a such a wonderful thing you are doing. Much more awareness of mental illness needs to be brought to the public attention. My brother who suffers from bipolar disorder has suicidal tendencies. Those who suffer from depression and other mental illnesses are truly ill and need help in making their lives whole again so they don’t commit suicide. I am a member of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). This organization’s goal is to educate and advocate about mental illness. You may find useful information for your video from their website http://www.nami.org

  5. I am rather anticipating this video. Being somewhat tied to the military, we hear stories all the time, but no one ever pays attention.
As a mom who had to beat a serious case of PPD in a horrible manner, yet beat it none the less…. I look forward to seeing your finished product. And spreading the word.
Best to you on your journey in completing this video.

  6. Dear Andrew,

    God speed.

  7. I have a question. I want to participate, because one of my best friends commited suicide a few years back. The only issue is, I can’t get permission from his family. I have no way to contact them, and well, his mother is the reason he committed suicide to begin with. She wouldn’t even attend his funeral. Is there anyway around this?

  8. like “silent” i am also the survivor of a suicide attempt and still suffer from chronic depression and thoughts of suicide so i am really looking forward to this video to, its really amazeing when people try to stop suicide before it happens.
